Abstract

1486141 Ribbon cartridges SCM CORP 2 Jan 1975 113/75 Heading B8M A (ink-) ribbon cartridge 14 removably mountable in a pivotally supported carrier (10) adjacent a print position of a typewriter, Fig. 1 (not shown) comprises a housing 16 including upper, lower (U-shaped) base, and top walls 28, 24, 18, 22 constituting, with an intermediate wall 26, a chamber 30 for storing and enclosing the ribbon 32 in a first orientation (in planar alignment with walls 24, 26). In use, a single, integral, rigid arm 20 guides a ribbon from supply to a print opening 60 in a second orientation (in planar alignment with the arm) and also guides it with the same orientation on its return to the housing. Arm 20 and wall 18 comprise ribbon ingress and egress slots 70 and 46 each comprising an edge 72 and 58 which turn the ribbon from one orientation to the other as it passes therethrough. The ribbon (while in first orientation) is advanced (and forced into chamber 30) by feed rollers 36, 38, regulated through a ratchet 39 and spring pawl 74, finger extensions 25, 27, of housing portions co-operating with roller grooves 29, 31, to prevent the ribbon wrapping around the rollers.
