Abstract

1485787 Hot melt adhesive applicator FISCHER & KRECKE 4 Oct 1974 [9 Oct 1973 28 Nov 1973] 43217/74 Heading B2L Hot-melt adhesive application apparatus comprises one or more resiliently mounted transfer plates 2, of a desired glueing format and of lower wettability by the molten adhesive than a workpiece, mounted on a pressure support means 1 and movable between a series of cup like depressions supplied with adhesive and a workpiece 4a supported by a counter pressure means 7. The transfer plate 2 preferably has a lower heat conductivity than metal and is made from a heat resistant plastics material such as ptfe or other silicon or fluoro compound. The plates 2 may be glued or vulcanized to the cylinder 1 or to a flexible base plate on metallic bars screwed or clamped to the cylinder. As shown in Fig. 1 bags 4a are carried on the metal surface 4 of a counter pressure cylinder 7 and. adhesive is supplied to the roller 3 by a heated reservoir with wiping means 10 or by a dipping roller. Alternatively magnetic fixings may be used. Infra-red radiant heaters 5, 6, 9 and 11 with shields 8 are provided for maintaining the glue molten to prevent "thread-pulling" or the cylinder 1, which may be oil-filled is internally heated or may be coolable. In Fig. 2 glue is applied to a plate 13 with depressions by an oscillating device 15 with a scraper and transferred therefrom to a workpiece 14 by a deformable transfer plate carried by a plunger 12.
