Abstract
148,553. Heinecke (nÚe Thyrauer), M. Aug. 25, 1917, [Convention date]. Parachutes.-A parachute is carried in a container and is attached to the aviator and to the aircraft by separate ropes, the cunnexion to the aircraft being rupturable and adapted to withdraw the parachute from the container, which remains attached to the aviator, after it has dropped clear of the aircraft. The parachute is packed in a cylindrical container 10, Fig. 11, attached to the aviator by a cord 11, the ropes 4 for attaching the parachute to the aviator hanging outside the container. The container is closed by a lid 12 secured by a wire 15 passed through eyelets 14 on the edges of the lid and container. A rope 8 connects the centre 16 of the wire 15 to the aircraft, and a weaker cord 9, passing through a bole in the lid 12, connects the rope 8 to the apex of the parachute. Normally, the aviator may sit on the container, but when he jumps overboard the container follows and the rope 8, which is sufficiently long to enable the aviator and container to get clear of the machine before it becomes taut, withdraws the wire 15 and the cord 9 extracts the parachute and ultimately breaks. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), the ring 6, Fig. 14 (Cancelled), of the air-escape orifice is connected to a cord 7 so that the aviator may pull down the ring 6 into the position shown to retard his descent, or by pulling the cord until the edge of the parachute is uppermost he may accelerate the descent. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
