Abstract

1485516 Means for mounting ground-engaging members on earth-working devices CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 10 Dec 1974 [10 Dec 1973] 53438/74 Heading E1F An earth-working tool 18 of an earthworking device 14 is apertured for the passage of a bolt 20 that passes through an opening in the device to allow of the tool being secured to the device by the bolt and disposed about the aperture is an enlarged cut out portion 34 for receiving a shear lug 38 that will be partially disposed in said cut out portion 34 and will engage in a co-operating cut out portion 36 in the device 14, the lug 38 serving to absorb shear stresses between the tool 18 and the device 14 when the tool engages earth in use of the device. The cut out portion of the tool may be either cylindrical as shown or frusto conical and may have a cylindrical bore 39 for the passage of the bolt. The cut out portions may be formed in flat opposed surfaces of the tool and the device. The tool may be countersunk 29 around the bore at a surface opposite to the surface in which the cut out portion 34 is formed and may either have a bore of circular cross section or a bore of square cross section leading from the counter sink to the cut out portion. The device may be embraced by opposed limbs of the tool and the securing arrangement described above can be provided in each limb. The device may be a digger bucket or a dozer blade.
