Abstract
148,504. Seccamani, P. June 27, 1916, [Convention date]. Cutters.-A device for cutting wires, especially high-voltage electric cables, comprises a pair of jaw-members pivotally connected together and pivotally connected at their ends to a pair of toothed sectors geared to pulleys adapted to be rotated by a wire cord, which passes round the pulleys and is connected to a sliding sleeve of insulating-material on the handle portion. The jaw-members 2, 2<1>, formed with jaws 16, 17 provided with cutters 31, 32, are pivoted together at 18, and connected by pivots 19, 19<1>, to the toothed sectors 3 meshing with pinions 24 on gears 4, which engage with pinions 26 integral with the pulleys 5. The wire cord 6 passing round the pulleys is fixed in any suitable manner to a tube 9 sliding within the fixed tubular handle portion 8 and connected with the insulating-sleeve 10, Fig. 4. The jaws are normally held open by means of coil springs on the shafts 20, 20<1>, of the toothed sector 3, and the pulley cord is kept taut by springs on the pulley shafts 27. For cutting wires otherwise out of reach, the sleeve 10, Fig. 4, is provided with an extension 11 adapted to receive a sleeve 12, Fig. 6, on an extension handle 13, the latter being secured by means of a spring-pin 36 engaging a hole 37 in the extension 11. In use, the wire is engaged between the normally open jaws, and is cut by pulling down the sleeve 10 or extension handle 13.
