1484949 Irradiated plastics insulation SIEMENS AG 9 Sept 1974 [27 Nov 1973] 39342/74 Heading H1A A method of irradiating a strand-form material on all sides comprises the steps of twisting the strand 4 initially by 45 degrees (using twisting device 6), then passing it under the source of irradiation 1, turning it over (roller 7), passing it for a second time, turning the strand over and through 90 degrees (roller 8 and device 9), passing it for a third time, turning it over (using further roller, not shown), and then passing it for a fourth time. The strand twisting device is described in detail. The strand-formed material used as an example is a polyethylene sheathed cable.
