Abstract

1484554 Travelling crane control cable R WALDMEIER 22 Jan 1976 02457/76 Heading H1A A cable 6 has conductors 6b in a circular sheath 6a to which a longitudinally extending indicating member 6f, with a flat surface 6h facing away from the cable, is affixed by a longitudinal rib 6g which is narrower than the width of surface 6h. Steel ropes 6d in sheathing 6c arranged on opposite sides of the cable sheath 6a and equidistant from 6f are connected to 6a by longitudinal ribs 6e. Surface 6 may have a marking of different colour to that of the sheath. The cable may be used in a travelling crane (Fig. 1, not shown) to suspend control box (5) from an auxiliary carriage (7) on the crane gantry, the surface 6h indicating if the cable is twisted so that control box (5) may be correctly oriented, e.g. when the functions of switches (5a) are indicated by arrows. Steel ropes 6d have their ends secured to control box (5) and auxiliary carriage (7) and relieve strain from cables 6b connecting switches (5a) to, e.g. a crane motor (1a). Sheath 6a, sheath 6c and member 6f may be separated at ribs 6e, 6g enabling 6a and 6c to be separately passed through seals into control box (5) and carriage (7). Other geometries of member 6f are disclosed.
