Abstract

1484416 Chromatography SPETSIAL KONSTRUKTOR BJURO AKAD NAUK ESTON SSR 2 May 1975 18398/75 Heading BIH A method of chromatographic separation of fluid mixtures into fractions, comprises circulating a continuously fed mixture in a system of at least three separating columns; simultaneously passing two independent fluid streams through separate series-connected parts of the system; effecting synchronized replacement of inlet and outlet points of the streams and an inlet point of the mixture along the columns; preliminarily separating the mixture circulating in the system into two fractions and discharging the two fractions from the system in said two streams of the fluid medium; and passing one or both streams containing the preliminarily separated fraction in the form of a mixture of substances through one or two additional separating column or columns respectively, wherein the fraction is separated into narrower fractions or individual components. In the condition of an apparatus using three series-connectable columns 1, 2, 3 and one further column 4 shown in the Figure, a mixture of A, B and C introduced where shown is separated; column 1 contains the most strongly absorbed component C from a previous cycle which is being removed by carrier gas W1; a mixture of components A and B passes to column 4 for further separation. When the mixture of all three components A+B+C reaches the valve 8, that valve is opened, the column 4 is connected to the outlet of column 1 instead of the outlet of column 3, and all the other entry and exit points are moved cyclically one position clockwise so that column 1 takes over the position of column 3 and so on.
