Abstract

1484263 Luffing arm apparatus LIFTEC ENG Ltd 27 Nov 1974 [5 Oct 1973] 46701/73 Heading B8H A platform 14 is mounted on a vehicle 1 such that it can be elevated and lowered relative to the vehicle, the platform 14 being pivotally disposed on the third boom 12 of an articulated boom assembly 8 whose first boom 9 is pivotally hinged at 7 to a rotatable support 5 mounted at the end of a horizontal slewing arm 4, the support 5 being rotatable through 180 degrees about the longitudinal axis H of the arm 4 between two positions of operation, one of which is shown in Fig. 1, and in each position the hinge axis 7 is horizontal. The support 5 is also pivotable about a vertical swivel axis S relative to the slewing arm 4, the latter being mounted on a turntable 3 which is rotatable through 360 degrees about a vertical axis V on a base 2 of the vehicle 1. Independently operable actuators are provided for rotating the support 5 about the axis H, for slewing the support 5 about the axis S, for slewing the arm 4 about the axis V and for moving the booms 9, 11, 12 of the boom structure 8 relative to the vehicle 1, and for moving the booms relative to one another, the boom 9 being movable relative to the support 5 by means of an hydraulic ram 15, further rams 16, 17 being mounted between the booms 9, 11 and 11, 12 respectively. One or more of the booms 9, 11, 12 may be telescopic, and the platform 14 is maintained in a constant level orientation in all positions of the boom structure by mechanical means (not shown) connected to the platform or else by means of hydraulic or electrical actuators responsive to a level-sensing device located on the platform.
