Abstract
1483913 Foamed carbodiimide and isocyanurate polymers BASF WYANDOTTE CORP 2 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973 (2)] 52056/74 Headings C3C and C3R Rigid foamed polymers containing carbodiimide and isocyanurate linkages are made by condensing an organic polyisocyanate at an initiating temperature of 0-50‹ C. in the presence of a catalytically sufficient amount of a catalyst comprising a tertiary amine trimerization catalyst and methanol or furfuryl alcohol. The condensation may also be carried out in the presence of a polyol and a catalyst which promotes urethane linkages, as well as a fluorocarbon blowing agent. In the examples 2,4- and 2,6-tolylene diisocyanate and/or polymethylene polyphenyl isocyanate with optionally a polyol (in Examples 40-83) were condensed and foamed in the presence of as catalyst a mixture of methanol or furfuryl alcohol and 1,3,5 - tris - (N,N - dimethylaminopropyl) - shexahydrotriazine, 2,4,6 - tris - (dimethylaminomethyl)phenol or triethylenediamine, and also optionally 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane, monofluorotrichloromethane, a polyalkyl-siloxane-polyoxyalkylene copolymer (as foam stabilizer) or tris-(2-chloroethyl)phosphate; Examples 40-83 used dibutyltin dilaurate or diacetate as the urethane catalyst together with one of ten polyols.
