Abstract

1483905 Anti-dazzle screens E S WILLGKEN 1 Oct 1974 [13 Feb 1974 4 Oct 1973] 42635/74 Heading B7J A glare shield device 2 for a roofed vehicle 1 comprises a substantially rigid ceiling member 3 which displaceably receives and supports parallel side edges of a glare shield sheet 4, 5 or 6 so that, in use, each sheet may be extended bodily from the member 3 to at least partially cover a vehicle window. Each sheet 4, 5, 6 is slidably guided in a respective recess provided in the upper surface of member 3 and is formed from a resiliently flexible material. Guide rods of suitable cross-section may extend along the member 3 to co-operate with the edges of the sheets, such as shown in Fig. 9 where partially superimposed shield sheets 48 and 49 are guided by respective pairs of C-section rods 44, 45 and 46, 47 so that the sheets may be extended therefrom in mutually diverging directions. Friction between the sheets and supporting member is low such that the sheets are automatically extended when the vehicle undergoes extreme decleration, thus protecting vehicle occupants from direct contact with the vehicle window.
