Abstract

1483700 Making jewellery TURNER & SOMERS Ltd 19 Dec 1975 [1 Oct 1975] 40211/75 Heading A3H An article of jewellery such as a cross, pendant, finger ring or brooch, is made by inlaying at least one blank 14 in a recess 12 formed by die stamping in a body 10, the blank(s) 14 and/or the body 10 being of precious metal. The body 10 may be diestamped from a silver blank and then rhodiumplated, and the inlay blank 14 may be gold, or coloured titanium. The inlay blank 14 may closely fit the recess 12 and be fastened by adhesive, or may initially be smaller but thicker than the recess 12 and pressed so that its edges frictionally engage the side walls of the recess. In the latter case, the side walls of the recess 12 are grooved or serrated, and adhesive may also be used; the pressing operation may serve to impart a textured or patterned finish to the inlay blank 14. The inlaid blank 14 may be below, or flush with, or proud of the border 16 of the body 10. Inlays of other metals may be fixed in part of the recess 12, or in other recesses.
