Abstract

1483696 Thrust bearing STRANGBETONG AB 13 Aug 1975 33804/75 Heading F2A A thrust bearing for building or bridge structures comprises lower and upper bearing members 11, 12 securable to opposed surfaces on a supporting and a supported structural member respectively, each bearing member consisting of a substantially planar plate, a load carrying cushion 13 inserted between the bearing members comprising a material which flows hydrostatically under compression and a ring 14 placed around the cushion and contacting it along its whole periphery, the ring being located in annular grooves 15, 16 in the opposed surfaces of the bearing members, the clearance between the inner surface of the ring and the adjacent side wall of the groove being sealed by means of sealing rings 19, 20. The bearing plates are preferably made of steel as is the ring 14. The sealing rings 19, 20 are suitably rectangular in cross-section and made of a softer metal, e.g. copper or brass. The cushion 13 may be made of a soft rubber or plastics material, e.g. neoprene. The cushion is preferably provided with a peripheral bead 21 engaging a corresponding groove on the inner surface of the ring.
