Abstract

1483571 Ink jets MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 26 Sept 1975 [26 Sept 1974 20 March 1975 13 June 1975 16 June 1975] 39597/75 Heading B6P Ink droplet producing apparatus includes ink chambers 14, 15 air chambers 13<SP>1</SP>, 1311, a piezoelectric crystal 23 to effect discharge of ink droplets through axially aligned channels 18, 19 and means 12 for causing a laminar air flow parallel to the droplets through channel 19. The inlet 13 may be tangential to the chamber 13<SP>1</SP> instead of as shown. Exemplary dimensions to produce laminar flow in channel 19 are: A=20 mm., W=1-4 mm., D=0À5-2 mm., T=10-100 Ám., diameter of channel 18= 40 Ám., diameter of channel 19=100-150 Ám. The means 12 may as shown schematically in Fig. 4. The humidifier 32 may be a chamber with a curtain dividing the inlet from the outlet and through which the air must pass. The curtain is partially immersed. Alternatively the humidifier is a chamber partly filled with liquid, the air being bubbled through it.
