Abstract
1482731 Fire extinguishing system G LINDEN D LAY and K TIEDTKE 6 March 1975 9405/75 Heading ASA [Also in Division G4] A system for automatically signalling and extinguishing fires comprises a signal line 10 with two heat-signalling means or smokesignalling means 11a and 11b, a signal line 12 with two IR flame signalling means 13a and 13b, a signal central control station 10, and a control device 21 for controlling extinguishant valve 19 to allow escape of extinguishant from container 20 to nozzle 17, wherein the system is activated for fire extinguishing in response to a signal from 13a or 13b only if, prior to this signalling, the signalling means 11a and 11b, if they are smoke-signalling means, have been actuated twice in succession in response to the presence of smoke, or, if they are heat-signalling means, have been activated once in response to the presence of heat, and wherein, if after a first amount of extinguishant has been discharged the flame-signalling means 13a and 13b are activated again after a predetermined time delay in response to continued fire conditions, a further amount of extinguishant is discharged. The control device 21 comprises a resetting means 22 for 11a and 11b, a resetting means 24 for 13a and 13b, means 23 and 25 for storing a signal from the signalling means, an AND-gate 26 which allows a signal to pass to delay 28 if simultaneous signals from 23 and 25 are received, and a timer 28 which activates valve 19.
