Abstract

1482394 Roof drilling tool assembly CARMET CO 1 Oct 1975 [3 March 1975] 40128/75 Heading B3C In a method of roof drilling a dismantlable tool assembly comprising a starter-driver bar 2, a number of rod extensions 14 and a bit 24 is used, the starter-driver bar having an end 4, Figs. 1, 3, adapted to be driven by a motor 6, Fig. 8, and a female socket end 8, Figs. 1 and 4, the or each rod extension having a male end 16, Figs. 2 and 5, to fit socket 8 and a female socket end 18 like end 8, and the bit having a male shank 26, Figs. 6, 7, similar to end 16 of extension 14. The bit may be locked in the rod extension or starter-driver bar female socket by a pin 32 fitting through holes 28 and 12 or 22. The starter-driver bar is connected to motor 6 and the bit connected to the driver bar and a starter hole is drilled whereafter the tool is retracted. A rod extension is fitted between the bit and the starter-driver bar and drilling recommenced. Further rod extensions may then be fitted between the previous extension and the starter-driver bar. An axial bore may be provided in the assembly for removal of dust by suction through holes 13, 23.
