Abstract

1481914 Magnetic compass A M LINGWOOD 13 April 1976 [17 April 1975] 15955/75 Heading G1F A magnetic compass includes a compass card 1 mounted for rotation on a casing 3 comprising a transparent top, the casing having a forward indicating mark 8 and two wind bearing marks 6, 7 one each side of and spaced 45 degrees from the forward mark 8. The top has a flange 4 with holes through which it is screwed to the deck of a craft and as well as the marks 6, 7, 8 (for use in tacking through 90 degrees) it has an aft indicating mark 9, beam indicating marks 10, 11 and two further wind bearing marks 12, 13 each spaced 40 degrees from the forward mark for use in tacking through 80 degrees; adjacent the flange 4, the casing is divided into 45 degrees sectors 18, alternately coloured green 19 and red 20. The compass card 1 is convex with its numbering 16 facing radially outwardly.
