Abstract

1481704 Glass fibre cables W C BLATCHFORD (Norfin Inc) 17 June 1974 26751/74 Heading D1T A cable comprising multiple layers of helically stranded glass fibre rovings with each filament of each roving surrounded by a cured elastomeric sheath bonded to the elastomeric sheaths surrounding adjacent filaments is characterised in that the rovings of all the layers have the same helical angle which has been selected so that the cable under a given tensile load will have a predetermined parameter of change of length, if any, with change of temperature. The helical angle is preferably not more than 12‹ and may be such that the cable will have a nil change of length with change of temperature. A preferred helical range is 5‹ to 9‹. The elastomer may be a urethane elastomer.
