Abstract

1481688 Pads for spot-type disc brakes AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 17 Sept 1974 [21 Sept 1973] 34183/74 Heading F2E A disc brake pad 43 includes a back plate 58 which has a pair of spaced abutments 59, 60, disposed at the ends of a recess adapted to receive part, 33, of fixed support structure of the brake so that the abutments oppose brake torque for either direction of disc rotation; one only-59-of the abutments is formed as an angled tongue which projects from the main part of, and lies in the plane of, the back plate, and has an outer arm which extends towards the other abutment; part 33 comprises an arm for locating, and guiding movement of, the brake pad. Preferably the other abutment 60 engages in a recess defined by a lip 61 of an angled plate 47 bolted to arm 33. For pad removal, plate 47 is removed and the pad pivoted by abutment 59 until abutment 60 is clear of part 33, after which the pad is moved along a circular path centred on the disc axis until it is clear of part 33. Figs. 1 to 4 of the drawings accompanying the complete Specification of the present application are identical with the drawings accompanying the complete Specification of related Specification 1,481,687, and attention is directed to the abridgment of that application where Figs. 1-3 are reproduced. Reference numerals in the present abridgment may be read in association with those Figures, where appropriate. In Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) the liquid inlets and outlets are provided in the inboard pistons, whose outer ends are shaped to accommodate the plate (40).
