Abstract

1481525 Electrostatographic developer XEROX CORP 19 Nov 1974 [27 Dec 1973] 49969/74 Heading G2H The developer comprises (a) toner particles comprising, dispersed in resin material, a red colourant of the general structure: - in which R 1 is hydrogen, a methyl group, or a trimethyl ammonium chloride group; and R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 are selected from hydrogen and a methyl group; and (b) steel carrier particles coated with a terpolymer formed from the monomers styrene, methyl methacrylate and vinyltriethoxysilane. Many known dyes of the above formula are specified. Resin materials exemplified are: a styrene/ butylmethacrylate copolymer plus polyvinyl butyral; polystyrene plus polyvinyl butyral; a styrene/ methylmethacrylate copolymer; a vinyl acetate/acrylonitrile copolymer; a styrene/ethylacrylate copolymer plus polyvinyl butyral; a polymeric condensation product of: - 2,2-bis(3-methyl-4-#-hydroxy/ethoxy/phenyl)- propane and fumaric acid plus polyvinyl butyral; a polymeric condensation product of 2, 2-bis(3- methyl-4-#-hydroxy ethoxy phenyl)-propane and maleic acid anhydride; and a polymeric condensation product of: - 1,1-bis(4-#-hydroxy ethoxy phenyl)-cyclohexane and succinic acid.
