Abstract

1480101 Arc stud soldering GRUNDY & PARTNERS Ltd 14 April 1975 [15 Jan 1974] 01925/74 Heading B3R An arc-brazing or soldering gun comprises a stud-carrier 18 attached to a spring-loaded plunger 15 which is retractible, when the stud is pressed against a surface to which it is to be brazed, to a ready position for further inward movement under the action of an electromagnet 14, a nose portion 21, 23 screwed into the gun and manually rotatable to adjust the ready position of the plunger and plungeroperated indicating means for indicating to the operator that the plunger is in a predetermined ready position such as to result in a required arc-drawing movement. The plunger 15 may have a cam portion 25 co-operable with one of a pair of microswitches (26), 27 arranged to light an indicator lamp when the required ready position is reached. Alternatively a conductive ring on the rear portion of the plunger may co-operate with a spring-loaded ball contact. The pins or studs to be brazed may be of brass and provided with a domed head of silver solder. A refractory ferrule 23, which surrounds the stud during brazing, may be of stepped cylindrical form and toothed at its outer end to permit limited outward flow of molten solder.
