Abstract

1479587 Gas filters G APPLEGATE 20 June 1974 [24 Aug 1973] 40127/73 Heading BIT [Also in Division F4] In a rotary gas scrubber, a contaminated gas stream flowing through a first passageway 1 is cleaned by passing it through one side of a filter disc 16 rotatably mounted within a stationary housing 17, the filter disc being cleaned by a countercurrent flow of gas passing through a second passageway 12. Circumferential and diametrical seals 25 and 28 each comprising a large number of fine resilient fibres or bristles 27 formed of plastics material and attached to a metal backing strip 26 are provided between the filter disc and the housing to prevent leakage and/or cross contamination between the flows of cleaning gas and the gas to be cleaned. The filter disc 16 comprises an outer metal cylinder 20, a central shaft 21, a number of radial partitions 22 and intermediate hoops or rings 23, the spaces between the radial partitions 22 and the hoops 23 being packed with an air permeable mass of fine metal wire or ceramic fibre.
