Abstract

1479433 Milling cutters MONTANWERKE WALTER GmbH 13 June 1974 [29 June 1973] 26193/74 Heading B3K A milling tool comprises a support body 1 such as a cylindrical or disc shaped member with peripheral grooves 2 each of which is provided with a seating surface 5 and a positioning surface 6, a cutter bit 3 being secured against the surfaces 5 and 6 by the camming action by the head portion 19 of a pin like clamping member 12 which extends from the seating surface 5 into a tapered bore in the cutter bit 3, the head portion 19 of the member 12 being of at least part conical configuration which upon rotation of the member through part of a turn, engages the tapered surface of the bore 4 of the cutter bit to clamp the bit against surfaces 5 and 6. The axis of the bore 4 and the member 12 may be inclined to each other and there may be eccentricity between the axis of the head and the shank portion of the member 12. The clamping member 12 may be threaded to in a threaded bore in the support body 1 or alternatively may be provided with a flanged portion 30, the threads or the flange providing with body 1 interengaging surfaces to produce reaction forces to permit clamping between the part conical head portion and the insert bore to rigidly secure the insert against the surfaces 5 and 6 whilst facilitating rapid releasing of the clamping member to permit changing of the insert.
