Abstract
1479300 Dock gates TAYLOR WOODROW INTERNATIONAL LTD 5 Nov 1975 [8 Aug 1974] 35111/74 Heading E1H A dock gate or a section of a dock gate formed from a plurality of such sections is pivotable on hinges along its lower edge about a horizontal axis and in the closed, raised position, it is supported by props under compression whose ends bear against bearing surfaces on the gate or gate section and the dock sill respectively to relieve the loadings on the hinges. In a first construction a dock gate or gate section 1 comprises a plurality of cantilever beams 4, plates 7 which form the front wall and ballast tanks 9, 12 which are used to open and close the gate or gate section 1. Each beam 4 is pivotably connected to one end of a lever 15 whose other end is pivotably connected to a prop 16. Each prop 16 is hinged at 17 to the dock 17 and its other end is free. As the dock gate I a gate section 1 is closed the ends of the props 16 contact the bearing surfaces 18, 21 and the base contacts a bearing surface 20 on the lip of the sill 2. As an alternative to those shown in Fig. 1 the props 16 may be pivotably connected to the gate or a respective gate section and be of telescopic construction. In a further embodiment (Figs. 5, 6 not shown), a dock gate comprises a plurality of sections each of which has a foot inclined downwardly and inwardly. The foot is hinged by pins to hooked seat members in a recess in the sill and abuts against a bearing surface on the sill's lip when the gate or gate section is closed. The props slide in tracks on the inner face of the gate or gate section and their other ends are hinged to the sill.
