Abstract
1478783 Caissons; repairing offshore structures SEA & LAND PIPELINES Ltd 19 Jan 1976 [28 Feb 1975] 8575/75 Heading E1H In a method of repairing an underwater portion of an offshore structure or pipe which extends both above and below the surface of the water, a housing 9 is used which comprises a tubular member open at its upper end and having an aperture 10 at its lower end through which the structure or pipe passes, the housing being disposed with its open end above the surface of the water and a seal 11 being formed between the housing and the structure or pipe, and the water pumped from the housing to enable entry of men and equipment for effecting repairs. For the riser pipe 1 shown, a section 7 is removed to enable the housing 9 to be slid over the pipe down to the region 6 to be repaired. The seal 11 may act to support housing 9, together with optional supports 13. The housing 9 may comprise longitudinal sections for clamping around a platform leg 14, the sections being connected along sealed flanges 16.
