Abstract
1478315 Pressure transducers EMI Ltd 14 June 1974 [16 June 1973] 28733/73 Heading H1K A pressure transducer comprises an edge supported diaphragm 1, and a beam 8 secured at one end to the support of the diaphragm, movements of the diaphragm being communicated to the beam which includes or carries strain gauges, by a coupling 3 attached to it and the diaphragm. The arrangement is such that on deflection of the diaphragm the beam flexes in opposite senses at two different points. In the embodiment the diaphragm, support and coupling together constitute a unitary member turned from beryllium copper, phosphor bronze, or stainless steel. For temperature compensation beam 8, centrally stiffened by flaps 9 is attached to a ring 7 which is in turn fixed to diametrically opposed flaps 5, 6 extending upward from diaphragm supporting ring 2, this ring and the beam having the same thermal expansion coefficient as adhesively attached silicon beam 11 which has a pair of PN isolated borondiffused strain gauges, located at its upper face between flaps 9 and each end of the beam and connected to form a bridge network. In an alternative form wire gauges may be used mounted on a metal beam directly attached to ring 2 and coupling 3 to which its expansion coefficient is matched.
