1477851 Recording linear dimensions DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 12 June 1975 [2 April 1974] 14667/74 Headings G1 J and G I M A device for recording the variation in clearance between relatively movable components comprises a frame 1 attached to one component, a rotatable follower 11 with means for resiliently urging it into contact with a second component so that the follower rotates in response to relative movement between the components and is subjected to a translational movement in response to the variation in clearance, and means for transmitting the rotary and translational movements to a recording chart and writing implement. The rotation of the follower 11 may be transmitted by an endless cord 16 to the pulley 14 which, through bevel gears 18, 19, rotates a chart spool 21 to wind a recording chart (not shown) for a supply spool 22. The translation of the follower may be used to move an arm 27 carrying a writing-implement clamp 26 across the recording chart, an endless cord being passed round a drum 29. The device may be used to record clearances in bladed mixing apparatus, an initial clearance having been established by a feeler gauge or the use of modelling clay.
