Abstract
1476927 Vehicle battery carriers; inertia switches CHRYSLER UNITED KINGDOM Ltd 30 Aug 1974 [31 Aug 1973] 41162/73 Headings H1B and H1N [Also in Division B7] A carrier 10 for a vehicle battery 11 comprises a pair of fixed contacts 18, 19 for engaging the terminals 15, 16 of the battery and detent means for restraining the battery against movement in a horizontal direction, an excessive force in the horizontal direction releasing the detent means so that the battery slides along the carrier to disengage the battery terminals from the fixed contacts. The contacts 18, 19 are formed in a cover 17 and are provided with projections 22, 23 which receive the battery leads. A spring 20 biases the contacts into engagement with the terminals but in the event of a collision the battery slides on nylon strips 12 to disengage the contacts from the terminals. Releasable spring loaded latch means (not shown) prevent return movement of the battery.
