Abstract
1476583 Piezoelectric motors GEOMETRIC DATA CORP 13 March 1975 10400/75 Heading H2A [Also in Division G2] A lens mount includes a piezoelectric element whereby the lens may be moved along its optic axis to effect fine focusing. As described (Fig. 3) a lens tube 40 is supported in housing 46 by leaf springs 42, 48 which lie in parallel planes and whose long directions are orthogonal. A lamina 38 is secured to the tube 40 at its centre and rests on the housing 46 under pressure of spring 36. The piezoelectric material is secured to one face of the lamina 38 whereby application of a voltage causes the lamina to bow. The device is intended for fine adjustment of microscope objectives. If accidentally contacted by the object, the lens tube moves axially and the piezoelectric coated lamina 38 rides against spring 36 to avoid damage. The lamina 38 may carry piezoelectric strain gauges which are connected to a Wheatstone bridge, the output of which indicate the amount of displacement effected.
