Abstract

1476454 Soldering SIEMENS AG 22 July 1974 [18 Sept 1973] 32330/74 Heading B3R A solder bath for fluxless soldering comprises a vessel 1 for holding molten solder 17 and a plurality of sonotrodes 3, 4 extending through the base 2 of the vessel and each connected to its respective electro-mechanical transducer head, the sonotrodes being spaced by a web 10 through which passes a plane 9 in which lie the nodes of oscillation of the sonotrodes and the acoustic heads being connectable to a common oscillatory circuit. In an embodiment the sonotrodes are formed from a single block by providing slots 6, 7, the zone between the ends of the slots forming the web 10, in this case connecting the sonotrodes, and a fixing shoulder 11 formed out of the block surrounds the sonotrodes and is held in sleeves 13, 14 by a clamp 15 and screws 16 to the base of the vessel 1 adjacent an opening 12. The transducers 20, 20<SP>1</SP> of the sonotrodes are piezo-electric transducers arranged in parallel in the circuit of an ultrasonic generator 22. The bath has thermostatically controlled heating means and a cooling blower. In modifications separate sonotrodes may be resistance welded to an intervening metal foil web or a web may merely be pressed between the two sonotrodes and more than two sonotrodes may be employed.
