Abstract
1476393 Phthalic anhydride BASF AG 4 Oct 1974 [5 Oct 1973] 43083/74 Heading C2C Phthalic anhydride is made by oxidizing oxylene with O 2 or an O 2 -containing gas, at 370-500‹ C., in a tube bundle reactor, in the presence of a supported catalyst comprising an inert porous carrier having coated thereon, to a thickness of 0À05-1 mm., a catalytically active material containing 1-40 wt. per cent V 2 O 5 , and 60-99 wt. per cent TiO 2 , which active-material contains an amount X wt. per cent of Sb 2 O 3 , determined from the equation X = A x B - C, where A is the amount, in grams, of active-material on 7 ml. (bulk volume) carrier, B is the cross-sectional area, in cm.<SP>2</SP>, of the reactor tube and C is a number from 1-3.
