Abstract

1475915 Moulding articles with recesses PHOENIX GUMMIWERKE AG 18 Oct 1974 [26 Oct 1973] 45272/74 Heading B5A Moulding apparatus for the formation of an article having a T-section undercut recess comprises two mould parts having surfaces contacting when the mould is closed and having L- seetioned grooves in these surfaces together defining a T-section groove to receive a double-T- sectioned strip to form the recess in the article. Fig. 4 shows a mould for the formation of a vehicle bumper having a T-sectioned recess to receive a decorative strip. The mould comprises parts 2, 3, 4 defining a cavity 7, parts 3, 4 meeting in plane 8 and have T-sectioned grooves to receive double-T-sectioned strip 9, the T- sectioned portion 10 of which projects into cavity 7 to form T-sectioned recess in the article. The recess is preferably symmetrical about the plane of partition 8 and the mould parts 3, 4 are preferably opened initially substantially rectilinearly. The flexible strip 9 is separately formed preferably from a mixture of polychlorobutadiene or butyl rubber. The bumper may be formed of a rigid foam material, e.g. of plastics or rubber, being cured in the mould.
