Abstract

1475439 Ball and socket joints GULF & WESTERN MFG CO (MICHIGAN) 6 June 1975 24348/75 Heading E2F In a ball and socket joint a plastics bearing retainer 18 is housed within a housing member 14 of the ball and socket joint, the retainer having an annular wall with an inner generally spherical peripheral surface 46 surrounding the ball 16 formed on the end of a stud 12, the annular wall of the retainer being provided with a circumferentially extending groove 50 and a plurality of circumferentially spaced resilient webs 52 in the groove. The webs 52 terminate in a series of resilient tabs 54 which, in a free state, extend beyond the outer edge of the retainer 18, but in the assembled position illustrated in Figure 1, are deformed. The retainer 18 is formed of a pair of interlocking rings 30, 32.
