Abstract

1475426 Oxazolo[4,5-b]pyridines MERCK & CO Inc 17 June 1975 25817/75 Addition to 1421619 Heading C2C Novel compounds (III) where n is 1, 2 or 3 (the X's may be the same or different), X is C 1-5 alkyl, C 1-5 alkoxy, halogen or CF 3 and R<SP>1</SP> is H or C 1-3 alkyl, are made by reacting appropriate arylcarboxylic acids and 2-amino-3-hydroxy-pyridines. The following compounds are also prepared: 3 - amino - 2,5 - dimethylbenzoic acid, 5 - tbutyl - 2 - amino- and - nitro - benzoic acids, 3 - t - butyl - 2 - methoxy - toluene, 2 - [3,5 - di- (bromomethyl)phenyl]oxazolo[4,5-b]pyridine and 2 - [3,5 - di(2 - methylallyl)phenyl]oxazolo[4,5- b]pyridine hydrogenation of which gives the corresponding 3,5-di-siobutyl compound (III). Pharmaceutical preparations useful as topical anti-inflammatories contain (III) as active ingredient.
