Abstract

1474996 Friction clutches CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 4 July 1974 [5 July 1973] 29752/74 Heading F2C In an hydraulically operated friction clutch wherein friction discs 46, 47 are engaged by high pressure liquid supplied by a pump 24 through ducts 17, 19 to a chamber 63 of an actuating piston 59, the effect of centrifugal pressure in the chamber 63 is balanced by the centrifugal pressure of liquid supplied to a balance chamber 68 through ducts 18, 20, 31 from a low pressure pump 25. The cross-sectional areas of the chambers 63, 68 are equal and the chamber 68 contains clutch disengaging springs 81. The low pressure liquid is additionally supplied through an orifice 51 and ducts 52 to the clutch discs 46, 47 to cool the latter.
