Abstract
1474784 Catalytic reactor with separator HYDROCARBON RESEARCH Inc 19 June 1974 27261/74 Heading B1F The invention relates to a high pressure ebullated bed reaction vessel suitable for reacting a liquid hydrocarbon feed material with a hydrogen rich gas at elevated temperatures and pressures in the presence of a bed of a particulate solid contacting agent, the reaction being of the kind wherein the gas and liquid feed materials are passed upwardly through the bed at velocities whereby the bed is expanded to a volume greater than its static volume and the particulate solid is put in a state of random motion and wherein the mixture of liquid feed, gas and solids constitutes a turbulent zone wherein minimum solid settling takes place and wherein there exists an interface above which only a gaseous phase exists and below which a gas, liquid, solid mixed phase exists, and wherein the reaction vessel has means to withdraw both liquid and vapourous effluents therefrom, the reaction vessel including a disengaging apparatus affixed in the upper portion of the vessel for separating the gaseous, liquid and solid materials from one another, the apparatus comprising (a) a vertical solids separating zone 6, Fig. 2, (b) a dilute slurry entrance 15, Fig. 2, or 25, Fig. 3, (c) a gas exit 13 or 23 (d) a solids-free liquid exit 11 or 21 and (e) a concentrate slurry exit 1 or 10, and inclined surfaces 3 and 14 adapted to disengage all the gas from mixture and direct the gas away from entrances 15 or 25.
