Abstract
1474455 Fusible interlinings KUFNER TEXTILWERKE KG 25 Sept 1974 [12 Oct 1973] 41775/74 Heading B2E [Also in Division Dl] A fusible interlining comprises of fleece 1, a first layer of heatweldable adhesive bonding the fleece (at 4) and lying on the fleece (at 2) and a second layer 3 of a heat-weldable adhesive lying on the first layer, the layers being distributed in a pattern or raster and the first layer having lesser thermoplastic flow properties than the second layer, the fleece containing less than 10% of a permanent binding resin. The second layer may contain a blowing agent. When making the interlining the fleece, which may be consolidated by sewing, may be first impregnated with a temporary binder which is washed out after the first or both of the heat-weldable adhesives have been applied. Suitable temporary binders are carboxymethyl cellulose, starch, gelatin, methyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylic acid amides, and acrylic and methacrylic acid polymers. The permanent binder, which may be applied as a dispersion as temporary binder incompletely washed out of the fleece, may comprise p.v.c., polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl lactylate, polyvinyl methacrylate, butadiene styrene copolymer, natural latex, or butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer. Alternatively, a thermoplastic powder may be sprinkled on the rear of the fleece. As well as binder, the fleece may contain bicomponent weldable fibres, or lower-melting-point thermoplastic fibres, or thermoplastic powder, which fuse on heat-welding to alter feel, providing in toto the additions do not contribute more than 10% of the strength of the fleece. The first adhesive layer may be applied as a paste by screen printing, and contains, as adhesive, polyamides, linear polyesters, p.v.c., polyethylene, or saponified ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, which may be cross-linked, or may be applied as a p.v.c. plastisol. A suspension of the adhesive of the second layer may be applied by squeegee or roller, or by dipping the tips of the pattern or raster of the first layer into a thin film of the second adhesive. The second adhesive may be of the same material as the first with the proviso that its melting point was lower or made lower with suitable additives. A detailed Example is given wherein the fleece is formed of a straight and curly polyamide-6 fibres and rayon staple fibres, the second adhesive coating containing a blowing agent and an optical brightener.
