1474240 Pipe couplings VORWERK & CO INTERHOLDING GmbH 27 June 1974 [28 June 1973] 28652/74 Heading F2G A connector for use in connecting a pipe 8 to a hose 1 comprises a substantially cylindrical portion which is screwed into the hose, differing pitches of a thread in the form of ribbing 28 of the connector and of a helical supporting wire 4 of the hose, together with claws provided in the periphery of the threads 28 combining to force the bulges 2 of the hose outward clamping the wire 4 so resisting unscrewing of the joint. The hose to be connected to the socket connection of a pin 8 is of the kind having a flexible, corrugated wall and a spiral support wire 4 bearing against the inner surface of the said wall, being a substantially tubular member 5 having an enlarged portion 30 to fit inside a socket of a pipe 8 such that radially extending ribs 37 of the connector 5 are located in an internal groove 17 of the pipe 8 and two further ribs 34 and 42, both being annular and circumferential, are provided on the portion 30, the rib 34 bearing against a frusto-conical wall 27 of the pipe 8 and deforming to provide a seal on engagement of the connector, the rib 42 serving to guide the connector concentrically into the socket. The portion of reduced diameter of the connector is provided with a helical external ribbing 28 forming threads having a plurality of resilient clamping claws located at intervals along the periphery of the threads such that, when the connector is screwed into the hose, the claws bite into the bulges 2 of the hose, and the threads 28, whose pitch is smaller than that of the helix of the wire 4, apply radial pressure to the supporting wire 4 against the bulges 2 resulting in a clamping action in both cases to resist unscrewing of the connector from the hose.
