Abstract

1473822 Locking a threaded connection TOWMOTOR CORP 4 March 1976 [30 May 1975] 08680/76 Heading F2H In a screw-threaded connection comprising an externally threaded stem 24 of a first member 23 screwed into an internally threaded bore 21 extending axially into a rod 18 from an end surface 19 thereof, with a lock nut 27, having a plurality of side surfaces 31, screwed on to the threaded stem 24 and engageable with the end surface 19 of the rod 18, relative rotation between the assembled members 18, 23, 27 is prevented by a locking member 32 which has a first end portion 33 engaging in an axial slot 26 in the threaded stem 24, a central portion 34 engaging in a radial groove (22) in the end surface 19, and a second end portion 36 engaging a side surface 31 of the lock nut 27. The locking member 32 is made of round section wire, and is initially of L-shape, the second end portion 36 being bent down after assembly. As shown, the rod 18 is the pistonrod of an hydraulic jack 11, the member 23 being a rod eye. Two radial grooves (22) diametrically opposite to one another extend across the end face 19 of the rod 18.
