1473393 Combined single-chamber spring-loaded brake cylinder assembly ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 15 Aug 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 35914/74 Heading F1D A brake cylinder assembly 1 for a vehicle comprises a compressed air single-chamber brake cylinder 2 including a piston 6 having a piston rod 12, and a spring-loaded compressed-air released brake cylinder 3 including a piston 16 having a hollow piston rod 13; an annular gap 14 is formed between piston rods 12, 13 which gap 14 connects with a radial passage 25 in a support flange 26 of the assembly 1 the passage 25 having a connection 29 to a flexible breather pipe 30. By this means the spring chamber 21 of cylinder 3 and a return spring chamber 11 of cylinder 2 can breathe to the outside atmosphere. The return spring chamber 11 connects directly with annular gap 14, and chamber 21 connects with gap 14 via a radial opening 23 in a cylindrical extension 24 of a partition 22 against which the energy storing spring 17 abuts. Piston rod 13 has a transverse opening 28 for connection of gap 14 with passage 25 and the connection is sealed by a bellows 27. In use, the cylinder 2 is actuated by the supply of compressed air to a chamber 8 via a service brake line 10. The cylinder 3 has a chamber 18 connected to a parking or auxiliary brake line 20. Fig. 2 shows two assemblies 1, 1', with pipes 30, 30' extending along a carrier 31 and joined by a T-piece 32 to a common pipe 33 leading to an elevated location on the vehicle.
