1473318 Pharmaceutical compositions FISONS Ltd 15 May 1974 [25 May 1973 (2) 12 July 1973] 25237/73 25238/73 and 33325/73 Addition to 1399834 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a substantially clear sterile aqueous solution containing, as active ingredient, a therapeutically useful proportion of 1, 3-bis (2-carboxychromon-5-yloxy)-propan-2-ol, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and comprising an additional compound which is therapeutically useful in the eye, or an additive to increase the viscosity or to prolong the action of the active ingredient, or wherein the concentration of "metal ions" is less than 20 ppm, or wherein the concentration of Mg<++> is less than 0.2 ppm, or comprising dextrose or mannitol, or comprising sodium citrate/citric acid, or boric acid/sodium borate, or containing a concentration of chelating or sequestering agent in the range of from 0.005 to 0.1 % w/v. The additional therapeutically useful compounds include anti-histamines e.g. antazoline or diphenhydramine hydrochloride; anti-inflammatory agents e.g. prednisolone; antibacterials e.g. sulphacetamide and propamidine isethionate; antibiotics e.g. tetracycline, chloramphenicol, neomycin and fromycetin; antimycotics e.g. nystatin and amphotericin B; decongestants e.g. phenylephrine; anti-viral agents e.g. idoxuridine and vasoconstrictors e.g. oxymetazoline. The viscosity increasing additive may be methyl cellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose hydroxy propyl ethyl cellulose, hydroxy ethyl cellulose, ethyl hydroxy ethyl cellulose, a polyvinyl alcohol, gelatin, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, a polyethylene glycol, a propylene glycol and/or glycerin. The compositions may be used in the treatment of allergic conditions of the eyes and nose. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1144905.
