1472887 Textured coatings BERGER JENSON & NICHOLSON Ltd 18 July 1974 [18 July 1973] 31977/74 Heading C4A [Also in Division C3] A substrate having a textured coating is produced by applying on to the substrate a textured paint which is substantially free from binding pigments. A " textured paint" is a paint which is either thixotropic or of high viscosity such that when applied to a substrate by spraying or spattering the effective viscosity is sufficiently high to prevent efficient atomization so that the paint is applied as irregularly sized blobs which harden to form a textured surface. The term " binding pigments " means substantially opaque and often coloured material added to the base in relatively large quantities to hide the surface being coated and often also to colour the paint. Thus the term excludes materials such as silica and bentonite clay, added in small quantities as extenders, binders, thixotropic agents and/or flatting agents. In the examples the textured paints comprise SiO 2 , bentonite clay, short-oil air drying alkyd resin, ethylene glycol, hydrocarbon solvent, silicon, oil, ketoxime, Co/Pb/Mn octoate drier, tung oil, nitrocellulose, short-oil, non-drying alkyd resin, short-oil, semi-drying alkyd resin, ketone resin, urea resin, plasticizer, xylene, butyl acetate, diacetone alcohol, ethylene glycol, isobutanol, a solvent mixture of lower alkyl acetates, emulsifier, polyethylene wax, vinyl chloride copolymer, P.V.C. stabilizer solution, an acrylate resin containing hydroxyl groups, ethylene glycol acetate and a polyisocyanate cross-linking agent.
