Abstract

1472263 Securing rotor windings ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO Ltd 11 Sept 1975 [1 Oct 1974] 42524/74 Heading H2A The electrical conductors of the winding of the rotor of a dynamo-electric machine are held in position in axially extending slots in the rotor core by the provision in each slot of a plurality of electrically conductive wedges 6 disposed end-to-end in the slot, immediately adjacent wedges in each slot having their adjacent ends shaped to define opposed recesses, and a respective electrically conductive member 12 is located between each said pair of immediately adjacent wedges 6 so as to be accommodated partly within each of the corresponding opposed recesses and to be pressed into contact with co-operating surfaces of the corresponding pair of wedges, at least during operation of the machine, to provide an electrically conductive path between them. The members 12 prevent currents flowing between the ends of wedges 6 and the rotor teeth 9 under unbalanced loading conditions and stator winding faults in an A.C. generator. Members 12 may be pressed into engagement with surfaces 11 during fitting of the wedges 6 or due to centrifugal action. The recesses may be formed by chamfering radially inwardly facing surfaces 11 of wedges 6 to form triangular spaces extending transversely of the slots and defined between surfaces 11 and electrical insulation 8 between wedges 6 and the radially outer conductors (4) in each slot, members 12 being of triangular or circular, Fig. 6 (not shown), cross-section. In alternative forms, Figs. 4, 5, 7 (not shown) the wedge recesses are rectangular or triangular grooves and members 12 are of rectangular or circular section.
