Abstract
1471839 Discharge collecting appliances KENDALL CO 1 Sept 1975 35960/75 Heading A5R A vented drip chamber 12 connectable at its lower end to a body fluid e.g. urine collection bag 10, includes two rows of spaced, circumferential air vents 16, Fig. 5, in which is disposed filter material 14, a drip tube 17 connectable to a drainage tube 11 extending into the chamber 12, its lower end 17a at least as low as or lower than the bottom of the filter material 14, see Fig. 5, and an air trap 18 formed in the chamber above the filter material. In use, fluid passing through the drainage tube 11, drip tube 17, and an inlet connector 13 passes into the bag 10 via a flap valve 15 which prevents fluid flow in an opposite direction. Individual pieces of filter material may alternately be provided in the individual vents 16. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 7, (not shown) a drip tube (27) extends into an open topped drip chamber (22) beyond a cup-shaped filter material (24), air traps (28) being formed in the chamber above the filter material. In Fig. 8 (not shown) a drip tube (37) extends into an open topped chamber (32) beyond vents covered by material (34), air traps (38) being provided. In Fig. 9 (not shown) a drip tube (47) extends into a chamber (42) level with the lowermost portion of vents covered by material (44), air traps (48) being provided.
