Abstract
1471783 Seaming YOSHINO KOGYOSHO CO Ltd 22 April 1974 [23 April 1973] 17562/74 Heading B5K [Also in Division B8] A collapsible tube comprises a laminated body 4 formed from at least two thermoplastics layers 5 and 6, one of which is impermeable, and a nozzle head 2 which is press-formed from a laminated disc comprising at least two thermoplastic resin layers 16 and 17, one being impermeable, and which is welded to the tube body such that the impermeable layers 6 and 16 are in overlapping contact, Fig. 6B (not shown), or in edge-to-edge contact to form a continuous barrier layer across the body/head joint. The head is formed by cutting the disc from a laminate of at least the two layers 16 and 17 by means of a cutter sleeve 7, which, together with a mould core 9, supports the tube body. One or other of the layers 16 and 17 is in a molten state so that the latent heat of fusion causes welding of the tube body to the disc on cutting out of the latter. The disc is then pressed between the mould core and a furnace mould 13 to form the nozzle head. Contact between the impermeable layers 6 and 16 is achieved during welding and pressing of the disc. The impermeable layers may be formed of polypropylene, polyamide or poly(vinyl alcohol), ad the otherlayers 5 and 17 may be formed of polyethylene. The layers 16 and 17 may be separately extruded, welded together on cutting out of the disc, and the remnants separated and recycled, Figs. 5A and 5B (not shown). In a modification, the disc may be cut from a laminate comprising an impermeable resin layer 16, additional layers 18, and the molten resin layer 17.
