Abstract

1471712 Automatic station seeking receiver INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 12 Nov 1974 [16 Nov 1973 (2)] 48858/74 Heading H3Q In a stop on signal radio or TV receiver in which the tuning is determined by the output of a D/A converter 5, Fig. 3, controlled by the output of a counter 7 driven from a pulse generator 6 until stopped by sensing a received signal, a store 15, 16 and/or 26 for storing a particular output from the counter has an output connected to an input of the counter and circuitry is associated with a setting input P of the counter so as to selectively transfer the digital signal at the counter input A1-An to the counter output Q1-Qn. The tuning section 1 includes varacter timing elements and the pulse generator 6 is started by a button 11. On detection of a received signal an output from a demodulator in 1 operates a toggle 10 to stop the pulse generator 6. A recall data store including series connected parallel data stores 15 and 16 formed on an integrated circuit 25 functions on operation of a recall switch 29 to recall the tuning setting to the previously received station as stored in the store 16. The counter 7 is then set to the count of the bit word stored in data store 16 and the new count is entered into the store 15. A station tuning data storage device 26 can be provided which is disclosed in more detail in a car radio receiver embodiment as circuit (39, Fig. 6, not shown). The station on which the counter 7 is stopped can be written in a station data store (38 1 -38 8 ) by operating a station selector switch (37) and a write switch (46) to select via a storing code converter (54) and a switchable decoder (53) the store (38) associated with that selector switch such as (37 L ). The stored station can be recalled by pressing the selector switch (37 L ) the final pressing of which operates recall switch (47) so that the counter 7 is set with the bit word at the output of a selection matrix corresponding to the station stored in the associated data store (38). The station currently received is indicated by an indicator (57) fed from a binary to decimal code converter (56). Also a dial indicator (59) is formed of a band of light-emitting diodes along a frequency or station dial. To prevent the contents of the station memories from being lost in the "off" state of the receiver at least the station memories are always connected to a power source such as a battery 62. This also enables the station to which the receiver was tuned when the receiver was turned off to be tuned to on switching on the receiver.
