Abstract

1471529 Decorating coffins K RAW 27 June 1974 [10 July 1973] 32801/73 Heading B6G A coffin or other burial cabinet having a part consisting of a basic material faced with another material is decorated by forming a decoratively shaped recess extending through the facing material into the basic material to expose part of the basic material and coating the exposed basic material with a concealing substance. The recess, which may take the form of shaped rectangles or a cross, may be provided by engraving or carving through a veneer facing material on a chipboard or other wood substitute base. The concealing substance may be a staining or colouring material such as paint which may be subsequently covered while still tacky with flock. Alternatively, an adhesive and flock may be used.
