1471463 Structurally modified interferons SANDOZ Ltd 2 April 1974 [4 April 1973] 48757/76 Divided out of 1471461 Heading A5B Structurally modified interferons having no terminal galactose units are prepared by inhibiting carbohydrate synthesis during interferon biosynthesis by incorporating a glycosyltransferase inhibitor e.g. 2-desoxyglucose or 2-desoxy-2-aminoglucose, into the reaction medium. The process may be carried out at a temperature of from 35‹ to 45‹C. The modified interferons are useful as antiviral agents and may be administered parenterally in the form of sterile injectable solutions or suspensions.
