Abstract

1471083 Coated products XEROX CORP 9 May 1975 [27 June 1974] 19575/75 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B6 and C3] A printing plate blank comprises a substrate which carries a coating of a silicone gum containing two curing agents, each activatable under different conditions, one of the curing agents having been activated to partially cure the gum to a non-tacky condition. Activation of the other curing agent completes the cure. The curing agents may be activated at different temperatures, or one by light and one by heat. The substrate may be paper, aluminium, polycarbonate or nylon. In Example I a polydimethylsiloxane gum is mixed with an acetone oxine blocked toluene-2, 4- diisocyanate as lower temperature active curing agent, and a bis-phenol adduct of methylene bis(4-phenyl isocyanate) as higher temperature active curing agent. This composition was dissolved in a mixture of benzene and tetrahydrofuran, and drawbar coated onto aluminium. The low temperature curing agent was then activated, and the partially cured blank used to form an imaged master. In Example III, the low temperature curing agent of Example I is replaced by methyl phenyl diazidosilane. In Example V, the silicone polymer contained 0.2 wt. % methylvinylsiloxy pendant sites, and benzoyl peroxide (lower temperature active) and di-t-butyl peroxide (higher temperature active) were used as curing agents.
