Abstract

1471015 Pneumatic gun R P SCHERER Ltd 16 Sept 1975 [16 Sept 1974] 40297/74 Heading F3C A compressed air gun has a cocking lever 8, Fig. 1 and 2, for stressing energy-storing means, a trigger 9 for releasing the stored energy thereby to generate compressed air for ejecting a capsule 38 from a barrel 5 of the gun, a magazine 3 for capsules, a loading member 7 operated by the cocking lever for feeding a capsule into the barrel and interlocking means for preventing the operating of the trigger and/or opening of the magazine during operation of the cocking lever. The cocking lever 8 is fast with a shaft 13 which is rotatable about an axis 11. The energy-storing means is a compression spring 44 which, when the cocking lever 8 is pivoted, is compressed via push rods 12 and a yoke 41 which presses against a shoulder 42 of a sleeve 43, the latter housing the spring 44 and being located in a cylinder 6. The interlocking means comprises a cam 15, Fig. 3, which is fast with the shaft 13 and has a slot 16 therein which receives a pin 49 of a lever 50 pivoted at 51. During the first 16 degrees of pivoting of the cocking lever 8 in the clockwise direction, end portion 17 of the cam slot 16 moves the pin 49, pivoting the lever 50 clockwise so that a fork 52 on the lever advances a slide 53 and prevents movement of the trigger. The same action causes a hook 54 of the lever 50 to engage in a cam 55 fixed to the magazine cover 4 so that the latter cannot be opened. These actions are completed before a cam 20, Fig. 2, begins to retract the plunger 7. To fill the magazine 3, the plunger 7 must be manually retracted, a magazine cover 4 being pivoted to its open position whereupon a cam lobe 58, Fig. 3, on the cam 55 will engage an arm 59 of latch 56 so as to disengage the latter. Normally, retraction is prevented by the latch 56 which is pivoted at 51 and is spring- loaded into engagement with a notch in slider 28. An arm 57 on the lever 50 retracts the latch 56 during the initial movement of the cocking lever, so that the latter can then retract the plunger. The capsules are packed in a protective tube which is inserted into the magazine with the capsules and is then withdrawn, leaving the capsules in the magazine. The protective tube pushes magazine platform 39, Fig. 2, into engagement with a spring-loaded latch 60 engaging a transverse bar 61 attached to the platform. The protective tube is removed. The latch 60 is automatically released when the cocking lever 8 is operated. A rachet mechanism (not shown) may be provided to prevent return movement of the cocking lever until it has completed its cocking movement about the axis 11, Fig. 1, to compress the spring 44, Fig. 2. When the trigger 9 is pulled a detent ring 46 is released from a detent 47 and the sleeve 43 is allowed to move. The energy stored in the spring 44 compresses air in the cylinder 6, this air being passed into the gun barrel 5, via a passage 48, expels the capsule 38.
